Born in 1991 in Neuchâtel (Switzerland), Benoît Jeannet is a multidisciplinary artist who lives and works in Berlin, Germany.
Benoît considers the studio as a laboratory and photography as a research tool. His work consists of protean images and objects that dialogue at the point of collision of contrasts. Witnessing an environment in which images overwhelm us, Jeannet functions as an operator who analyzes, deconstructs and reorganizes this flow. Jeannet’s works are constructed by conceptual layers that associate and confront each other where the represented object distinguishes itself from the physical materiality of the image. His work critically examines the popular perception of photographic images and their responsibility to the movements of Western society.
Since 2020, Benoît Jeannet has devoted himself mainly to oil painting. Freed from any photographic references, his figurative work explores the representation of the banal and the ability of painting to inflict singular reading grids. Fascinated by the wildness of things, the objects he represents function as narrative primers for a sense that the author chooses not to control. Composition is the intermediary between things, within which the artist attempts to generate tension through the treatment of colors and the process of applying paint.
